why am i so bad at drawing
That is longer games with time increments. People tend to avoid being flagged when this happens and could be why you keep losing. I've been winning games on time despite having an inferior position
That's exactly why. If you play 3/0, flagging becomes a major part of the game. Which is why people who play 5/5 are going to play a lot better, because they can take much more time without having to worry about being flagged. (They only need to make a move every 5 seconds to not be flagged.)

You can think of it this way, People become more careful with more time on their hands and the same people become wild once time runs down.
Short games emphasize speed and pattern recognition. The longer you play, the more important calculation becomes and the number of errors that you can take advantage of decreases considerably. Simpler tactics are also much more likely to succeed in fast chess whereas positional play becomes much more important as the length of the game increases.
In short: different skill sets take center stage.
